"great little culinary gem; a literal alleyway mexican restaurant that serves oaxacan dishes as well as some of the more expected mexican fare. the salsas are all fresh and quite vivid tasting; the salsa verde is very spicy and worth it for any spice addict.
the mole sauces (note: it's pronounced "moe-lay,") are well, well worth the visit: the chips that are brough out when you're seated as per mexican-american restaurant tradition are lathered in red mole and with queso fresco sprinkled on top.
el texate's decor is most definitely familiar: there is outdoor seating and due to the restaurant's proximity to the coast, it's definitely welcome on a beautiful day. inside, there is a brick-like pattern painted on the walls that's kind of cheesy, and the walls are mirrored on one side, which gives it the illusion of being larger than it really is when you first venture in. to the right there's a full bar with two tv's perennially playing mexican football games, so bring your chivas jersey! waitstaff are freindly and polite, and more than happy to answer any questions you may have with some of the more traditional menu items.
